André Citroën wanted to produce a vehicle that was simply designed, low-priced and lightened, without compromising its sturdiness. After the type A, the B2 was launched, followed by a smaller model: the 5CV two-seat Torpedo, which was generally painted yellow, earning it the nickname of "little lemon". Then came the three-seat Torpedo, nicknamed the "cloverleaf" due to the shape of the passenger seating.
The car body was made of wood on which was nailed preformed sheet metal. The running boards were made of aluminium and the car's floor was covered by a black mat. The Citroën had a single door on the right side. The driver's seat was fixed in place while the passenger's seat slid on rails. The waterproof hood rested on ash wood hoops and its 850 cc engine powered the car to a top speed of 60 km/hr. From 1922 to 1926, 80,250 units were produced.
